Happy One Year Anniversary!!!

I can’t really remember when I first got the idea for Commons 4 Kids; so I went to the website and checked out the first post and I had the idea in April of 2011 but I’m a procrastinator so I didn’t do much about it until around the first part of June, when I finally decide how I wanted to attack the situation.

Procrastinator some more and then, around the end of August I had everything set up and was sorting cards, so I’m not really sure the exact date Commons 4 Kids was created, so I’m going to hit the middle of when I first got the thought and our first donation, which was October 11^th, 2011!!!

HOLY CRAP! Why does my wife let me do that; I get an idea in April and our first drop off was 6 months later! I hate being a Pisces sometimes!

I’m picking August 1^st as our “anniversary date” simply because it’s a nice round number and sort of in the middle of all of that procrastinating.

The good news is that I have done a great job NOT procrastinating since then.

In ONE YEAR, we have donated over half of a million cards! Donated personally in three different states, responsible for donations in 6 states and received donations from Kentucky, Massachusetts, Missouri, Indiana, New York, Maryland, Michigan, Florida, Louisiana, California, Nevada, Ohio, Illinois and Colorado!

14 of 50 states! That is seriously crazy!

I would estimate that we currently have about 200,000-250,000 cards currently “in stock” that need to be bagged and donated, so I don’t think it will take us another year to reach our 1 MILLION mark!

This year has truly been amazing; I have learned so much about the people that inhabit this planet that I never knew before. Most people are VERY giving and I didn’t realize how many charities there were out there, just trying to help kids. I can say that I truly LOVE doing this; it’s a form of stress relief, I get to deal with a hobby that I have loved since I was a child, I get to show my son that we are supposed to help others and I get to bring happiness to kids….I’m like a sports card Santa Claus…how awesome is that.

So here’s to another awesome year, another 500,000 cards donated….and working my ass off towards 2 MILLION!

Thanks to everyone who has donated, accepted donations, told people about us, wrote about us or just simply sent an email saying “nice job”; it isn’t just appreciated…It’s been life changing.
