Boy Scouts of America
While I have kept this project/organization free from any political or religious opinions or thoughts, I feel it necessary to make a statement.
Over the past year, Commons4Kids.org has donated sports cards to Boy Scouts of America and, based on the recent hate-filled decision made by the Boy Scouts of America concerning the gay and lesbian community; I have decided that we will no longer be working with them to get cards into the hands of the kids.
We have mostly leaned towards working with children’s home and hospitals and I am currently trying to work out a plan to expand where we donate and I have some thoughts on trying to get into the lower income neighborhoods and taking the cards straight to the kids who need and want them. When I find a charity to donate to, I try to read up a little on them to see what exactly they do and try to make sure the good that they do out weighs any harm they may do.
It’s sad but I have come to the belief that The Boy Scouts of America’s decision has pushed them to doing more harm than good.
I’m sure this may not be a popular decision to many religious people; however, I have to stand by my beliefs on this issue. We try our best not to ask any organization what their religious or political beliefs or opinions are; we just simply want to get cards into the hands of kids; however, this issue is a bit different due to the fact that The Boy Scouts of America have specifically decided to decline their services to a group of people who have a personal life they don’t agree with and in my opinion, that simply hurts the kids and allows them to be taught hate towards those different than them and I wish to be no part of that.
We will continue to donate cards everywhere we can and we do NOT care if a child is a boy scout or not; however, we will not be “officially” donating cards to The Boys Scouts of America or any event they promote.
